CASE STUDY III

III. Classified Federal Client Washington DC
  • Focus: Classified.
  • The Challenge: One of our Federal customer’s ran their production system on a Sun E25k. this customer wanted to build an Oracle RAC prototype to explore the benefits of a clustered system instead of using another SMP box as their needs grow. The migration from single to clustered servers is complex and requires unique prestige in a no-fail delivery.
  • Our Approach: We decided to build a test bed using two T2000 servers running Solaris 10. Our expert engineers worked closely with the customer staff to show each step of the installation process. The approach, scope of work, the required knowledge transfer, and the uniqueness of migrating from a rack to clustered servers is rarely attempted.
  • Our Solution: The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget. The client was pleased with the caliber of their work and also the knowledge transfer. The prototype was a success and our customer scaled out their cluster with two additional servers for use in production for their claims analysis environment.
  • Business Gain:As their initiatives and needs grow, RAC offers a cost-effective way to scale up and scale out while still delivering the high level of service. Thus, an Oracle RAC running on Sun Microsystems servers has proven to be a powerful combination.
