RESEARCH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
- Provides assistance with Surgical and
Experimental procedures
- Assisting with preparation and
performance of surgical operations involving large (pig) animals.
- Assisting with sample (tissue, blood,
urine) collection, processing, and storage.
- Conducting a variety laboratory assays
such as: amino acid and protein isolation and derivatization; protein
concentration assay, gel electrophoresis, platelet aggregation assay,
blood gas analysis, blood clot analysis (thromboelastography),Coagulation
tests (PT, aPTT, ACT measurements), blood chemistry analysis.
- Operating Gas Chromatography—Mass
Spectrometry and performing related data integration, enrichment
calculation, and mathematical modeling.
- Recording and maintaining to computer a database
of samples and experiments for graphing purposes.
- Ordering animals and scheduling OR and
Vet support.
- Performing basic statistical computations
of "raw data' such as:mean, standard deviation, standard errors,
t-test, analysis of variance.
- Assisting with reference collection,
organizing and editing research reports, posters and manuscripts.
- Provides General Laboratory Maintenance
- Maintain complete inventory of supplies
and equipment.
- Prepare solutions, drugs and reagents for
experiments.
- Maintain laboratory in an orderly state.
- Provides Coordination and Communication
Services to ISR Laboratory Support Branch and Animal Facility
- Organizing the study team to ensure
everyone understands his/her job description and standards.
- Assist in reviewing and overseeing all
the preparation and assays.
- Assist new personnel whenever necessary.
Additional Requirements and Notes:
- Contractor shall comply with all Army,
Institute and other regulatory research requirements.
- Contractor shall comply with
safety procedures and infection control/occupational health procedures
pertaining to the laboratory, vivarium and animal surgery area, to include
documentation of the following: TB Test; Hepatitis B vaccine, titer, or
wavier, Toxoplasmosis titer (females); Rabies (pre-bite) vaccine, titer,
or wavier, Brucellosis titer; Q-Fever titer, Tetanus booster within the
last 5; HIV titer.
- The contractor employee is
responsible for maintaining the equipment assigned to them by the
Institute for the completion of assigned tasks.
- When required to take government
equipment out of Building 3611, the contractor employee must obtain a
property pass, Optional Form 7, from the Institutes Logistics Property
Book Officer to validate the authorization to do so.
- Contractor shall travel to
present research data or attend medical/scientific meetings and to obtain
education in specialized emerging methodologies and concepts will be at
the discretion of the Commander and Director, USAISR.
- Contractor personnel must
clearly identify themselves as a contractor employee. The name of their
company must be part of their email address, all correspondence and all
identification badges, desk plates, etc. Additionally, contractor
personnel are required to identify themselves as contractor personnel when
attending meetings, answering Government telephones, or working in
situations where their status as contractor employees may not be obvious.

Clearance:
- NAC security clearance is required.
Security
badges:
- Personnel shall wear an
identifying badge issued by the Government at the site. The badge shall be
worn on outer clothing between the neck and waist on the front part of the
body and be visible at all times.
